Supporting COPC

How to Support COPC

We welcome the opportunity to partner with you to make a difference in Orange County. COPC program activities emphasize applied research projects that offer real-world professional development opportunities for UC Irvine students, help to address local issues and regional concerns, cultivate a new generation of community-minded professionals, and expand research to the public arena. These activities include:

Community Scholars Program: Established in 2003, the Community Scholars Program was developed in response to requests from local community organizations for information and technical assistance in support of capacity building efforts tied to equity issues in housing and community development, demographic and economic change, community health, and environmental concerns.

COPC Sponsored Courses: Students work in groups under the direction of a faculty member to apply classroom knowledge to "real world" planning problems that benefit local communities. Past projects have included evaluating neighborhood revitalization for the City of Santa Ana, and writing successful grant proposals for the City of Costa Mesa.

"Changing Face of Orange County" Tour: This tour takes students and faculty off campus and into the "real world" to challenge assumptions about Orange County. Students tour selected sites throughout the county, meeting local officials and community leaders to learn about collaborative problem solving and community building practices.

"Changing Face of Orange County" Lecture Series: This lecture series engages the campus and community in a lively dialogue about important issues affecting Orange County and the region. Quarterly lectures examine issues such as affordable housing, transportation, poverty, and the environment.

Support from diverse sources including corporate, foundations, and individual donors help sustain and enhance COPC program efforts. We hope you will consider becoming a COPC sponsor.
