urbanization had impacted the region. He discussed how issues such as
traffic congestion, population growth, declining air quality, the lack of affordable
housing, and the absence of jobs with livable wages, is forcing middle-class families
to leave the region, or look to the areas, such as San Bernadino and Riverside, to live.
Kotkin argued that this trend, known as the San Francisco effect, if
continued, would eventually make the region a place for only the wealthy and those
that work for the wealthy.
