Engaged Research

Community Scholars

Our COPC Community Scholars Program facilitates applied research projects by UCI faculty and graduate students. UCI participants work collaboratively with leaders of local organizations to respond to equity concerns in public policy areas such as housing and economic development, transportation, infrastructure, and the environment. Our goal is to tie the research, teaching, and learning activities in the School of Social Ecology and at UCI to the “community knowledge” of local organizations to help make a difference. COPC is working to create scholars and professionals who are committed to serving the public good.

The COPC Community Scholars Program provides support to Orange County community-based organizations, by:
  • conducting research that helps to inform community outreach and organizing activities;
  • providing technical-assistance (e.g. grant writing, program evaluation, etc.) which builds organizational capacity;
  • promoting activities that emphasize connecting graduate and and professional training efforts to community development and capacity building efforts in Orange County.
